KAHAROA TARMAC RALLYSPRINT

The longest tarmac event of the year was run on Sunday 26 Sep with a field of 20 cars turning out despite the weather forecast.  And boy oh boy were we lucky.  The road was wet, but we didn't have any rain at all during the day and it soon dried out and gave everyone plenty of grip.  The pace was fast a furious, but curiously, there were lots of broken cars at this event.  First Neil's Peugeot gave up, then Geoff Douch's Mitsi Lancer.  At some stage Colin Goodwin's engine cried enough and then there was the spectular drive shaft breakage at the junction for Daniel Haines.  Wow!

However in between the breakages, there was some great racing.  Of course Phil Campbell and his AP4 Fiesta took out the win, but Charlie Evans from HCC in his Honda Civic was second, followed by Mike Torr in his WRX with the newly refurbished engine.  He was closely followed in fourth by Carlin Leong from TVCC, driving a borrowed Toyota Celica.  And fifth overall was Dondy Needham in his Ford Escort.  A great mix of cars at the top of the field and some really good driving by everyone.

Thanks as always to our merry band of marshalls, some of whom were out for the first time or just doing a particular job for the first time.  You all did great work and we really appreciated it.

All hands to the deck now, for the 2021 Rally Bay of Plenty now on 21 November!  See you there.
